Eating with the seasons…Did You Know? Every part of the squash plant can be eaten, including the leaves and tender shoots, which can be made into soup. Winter squash comes in shapes round and elongated, scalloped and pear-shaped with flesh that ranges from golden-yellow to brilliant orange.

Now that’s what we call Apple Bobbing Commitment!!! Apple Day usually takes place on 21 October each year, or often the nearest weekend to that date. There are lots of Apple Day events taking place across the UK, so why not have a bit of fun creating your own old skool activities – the longest peel competition, cook a crumble, walk in an orchard, apple bobbing and tasting. Or you could just dazzle your friends and family with our apple trivia??? Do you know why apples float? Because they are 25% air. Or did you know that in Ancient Greece tossing an apple to a girl was a proposal of marriage and catching it was a response of ‘yes’! WE MUST SAY!!! …

Wild Food Cooking Recipe Card 4: baked wild blackberry cheesecake As promised yesterday here’s Chloes favourite wild food ‘cheesecake’ recipe. Don’t panic if blackberries are hard to find? This amazing and wonderfully rich cheesecake is equally good made with other fruit, just use whatever is in season, or you happen to have in the fridge or freezer. Raspberries and blueberries are also delicious. The team have been out and about again…this time around Wild Food School delivered yet more apples and blackberries to TGM HQ! So you know what that meant – CAAAAAAKE! Here’s our delicious recipe for a super hero apple and blackberry fruit cake. It’s a great way to eat fruit, the only trouble you will have is stopping whoooo haaaaaaa go and enjoy yay!!! Ingredients 250g organic wholemeal self-raising flour 175g organic butter 175g organic light brown sugar ½ tsp cinnamon 2 rounded tbsp organic demerara sugar 3/4 small urban foraged apple, quartered (not cored or peeled) 2 large organic or free range eggs , beaten 1 orange, finely grated zest 1 tsp baking powder 225g or there abouts blackberries …

We had another bumper day at Wild Food School yesterday, our team of intrepid urban foragers brought back this bumper crop of apples yummy yummy! It looks like there’s a glut of fruit out there at the moment and we’re going to make sure that it doesn’t go to waste.
