Did you know? The Conservation Volunteers help hundreds of thousands of people each year to reclaim local green places http://www.tcv.org.uk/ Looking after green places isn’t just about caring for nature. It’s about caring for people as well. A well-used green place is a classroom, a gym, a playground and a sanctuary. It is a place that is good for people as well as for wildlife. Team TGM joined volunteers and Friends of Westow Park  http://friendsofwestowpark.ning.com/ for a spot of tree planting (Lagerstroemia Indica Rosea) and outdoor recreation.

Our very own Curtis King spotted at Olympic Judo. Judo contests are a five-minute whirlwind of combat, with athletes attempting a combination of throws and holds in a bid to defeat their opponents. Developed from jujitsu and established as a sport in the late 19th century by Dr Jigoro Kano, athletes use an intricate mix of attack and defence. The sport’s one-on-one battles can be tough, tense and explosive, as competitors grapple for command against equally determined opponents.

Girls and boys begin when they are very young. They must be willing to spend years practicing to be the best in their sport. To be an Olympic athlete requires commitment, a kind of promise or pledge to work toward a goal. Athletes and their families follow a schedule, or plan, for practice time. Every day of the week, they go to practice. There is much sacrifice, or giving up what one likes to do. Athletes must give up many school activities. They keep up with school work by studying before and after practice. Parents also sacrifice. Sometimes they drive their children many miles …

Our crazy fury villain Maximatosis shows his support for London 2012. It’s a good job he’s not competing his ‘SUPER HOP’ would mean he’d take Gold in the long jump, triple jump, 110m hurdles, high jump and pole vault! YIKES!!!
